The Role of AI in social media management

Artificial intelligence (AI) has ultimately sparked new possibilities but also some worries. When it started taking off, many of us were concerned that it would replace jobs. The argument of needing the human element has always remained, and it’s understandable why.

However, that doesn’t mean AI cannot be helpful in social media management and marketing. At Social Directions Agency (SDA), we utilise AI tools to better our efforts on social media and enhance the performance of our campaigns. Keep reading as we share how we have created the perfect balance between using AI tools and our talented team.

What is AI?

Just in case you need it, we’ll briefly describe AI before we jump further. AI is a concept that has been around since the 1950s. It was first described as a machine’s ability to perform a task that would have previously needed human intelligence. The definition of AI has naturally modified and evolved over decades of technological advancements and research.

Today’s AI systems or tools demonstrate some traits of human intelligence, such as perception, problem-solving, learning, and even a small amount of social and creative intelligence. AI comes in many different forms, from smart speakers to more well-known examples like ChatGPT.

How we use AI to enhance our social media efforts

Now that you have a greater understanding of AI, let’s talk about how AI tools can be utilised to enhance your efforts to help you achieve your goals. Below are some of the different ways we use AI at Social Directions Agency.

Brainstorming and creating content strategies

One thing we use AI tools for at Social Directions Agency is brainstorming ideas and creating content strategies. With applications like ChatGPT, we can discover what is trending on social media currently and other popular posts. This gives us great insights when creating content strategies for our clients.

We take inspiration from the ideas given and execute the post to best suit the client. In saying that, we still need to take everything a step further and utilise our talented designers to create the content. Without this step, the post wouldn’t perform as well.

Writing copy for social media posts

We also occasionally use AI to write copy for social media posts. Doing this gives a general idea of the direction we should go with the copy. In saying that, we still pass the copy through our Copywriter to make sure the brand’s voice is embedded in the copy. Without doing this step, the business might not be able to appropriately connect with its audience.

Determining Ad audiences

Our team uses AI tools to determine the best audiences for social advertisements too. For example, Meta has the ‘Learning Phase’ where AI determines the best people to target with your ads. It’s a very useful guide since the social media platform knows its users very well.

However, we still have to take this another step and check the client is happy with whom we are targeting and also target any other demographics we think would be suitable. In addition, we have to feed the ads with great, eye-catching content so that the client can reach their social media goals and grow their business. If we fail to do this, the ad won’t do what it is designed to do.

Using the AI voice

The last AI tool we use is the AI voice. We use this voice on top of reels and TikTok videos, in particular. We find it to be a nice element, and some people enjoy TikTok videos with voiceovers rather than music. The clients are not always comfortable with or have the time to create these voiceovers so this is where the AI voice is particularly useful.

Summary

We at Social Directions Agency see the potential of AI for enhancing social media marketing. Similarly, we are excited about the future of AI and how its capabilities will evolve. In saying that, we recognise the importance of striking a balance between AI and utilising the talents of our team.

We feel that AI can be a great starting point for brainstorming ideas, writing copy, or determining audiences, but we always have to take it a step further and tweak what it comes up with to best suit our clients and their audiences.
